Stoke City Friendly Scheduled

The Columbus Crew will be playing Stoke City of the English Premier League in a friendly match on July 24th, 2012, at Crew Stadium.  Stoke have been finishing around the middle of the table in England’s top league since the 2008-2009 season.

While not as lucrative of an opponent as Newcastle United, it is still good that the Crew were able to reel in a quality side for their summer friendly.

Stoke, founded in 1863, is the second oldest professional team in the world.  Their only major trophy came in a 2-0 win against Chelsea in the 1972 Football League Cup final.

Stoke’s most notable player is English international forward Peter Crouch.  However, if he’s selected for England’s Euro 2012 team, he probably won’t be with the team for the friendly in Columbus.

Although, if he can play against the Crew, I wonder if nachos will be made available for him in the stadium.

Be Massive.

Am excited to have tickets to see Stoke City (my grandfathers home team) in a match in the States. Hope the Crew fans don’t mind my Potters jersey. And it’s only a 10 hour drive.

Last year’s friendly against Newcastle United had plenty of the Toon Army present. Make the drive and enjoy the experience! It’s most likely a once-in-a lifetime opportunity.
