Crew Reserves Make Up For First-Team, Beat NYRB 2-1

After a rather pitiful performance by the Columbus Crew first team, the reserves slightly made up for it afterward with a 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls.

All three goals came in the last 2o minutes.  Crew forward Aaron Schoenfeld opened the scoring in the 70th minute on a header from a free-kick served in by new left-back Nemanja Vukovic.

Midfielder Justin Meram doubled the lead for Columbus in the 87th minute after Vukovic played a nice through ball to the second-year player.

Crew goalie Matt Lampson almost finished the game with a clean sheet, but a Jose Angulo cross in the 90th minute found Tyler Ruthven, who finished well to score the Red Bulls’ reserves’ only goal of the game.
