The Crew’s Ups and Downs In Florida

The Columbus Crew have spent the past two weeks in Bradenton, Florida, preparing for the long 2012 MLS season.  While there, Columbus played in three scrimmages ending in varied success.

Malmö FF was the Crew’s first opponent.  Malmö, founded in 1910, finished fourth in the Allsvenskan last year, Sweden’s top league.  The two teams played on February 8th in three, 45-minute periods.  Crew forward Emilio Renteria scored in the 1st minute after Dilly Duka’s shot wasn’t handled by Malmö’s goalie.  However, two goals from the Swedish side in the 24th minute and 29th minute secured a 2-1 victory.  Former Seattle Sounders midfielder Erik Friberg assisted on Malmö’s first goal.

Here are some photos from the scrimmage.
