Crew v. Galaxy Preview (July 21st, 2011)

The Columbus Crew visit the Home Depot Center to play the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday night (10:30 pm).  The Crew are 7-5-7 this year (28 points) and are currently third in the Eastern Conference.  The Galaxy are 10-2-9 (39 points) and are on top of the Western Conference as well as the entire MLS.

The Crew are coming off a 0-0 tie against San Jose last Saturday.  The Galaxy most recently lost 4-1 to Real Madrid on Saturday in the World Football Challenge. They also lost last Wednesday to the Seattle Sounders, 3-1, in the U.S. Open Cup.

Los Angeles is currently on a 12 game unbeaten streak in MLS play, with their last game being a 2-1 win over the Chicago Fire at home on July 9th.  Their last loss in MLS was back on May 1st, when they lost at Dallas, 2-1.  The Galaxy are also undefeated at home in MLS play this season.

The Crew’s newest member, Tony Tchani, won’t be able to play tonight due to problems with his right knee.  Crew rookie Rich Balchan should make his return after missing the last two games.

Prediction: Crew 1-1 Galaxy

The Galaxy extend their unbeaten run, but the Crew are able to grind out another road point.  Mendoza gets back on track with a goal for Columbus, and Landon Donovan scores his league leading tenth goal for LA.
