Columbus Crew v. Vancouver Whitecaps Preview (July 6th, 2011)

The Columbus Crew play the Vancouver Whitecaps at Empire Field tomorrow night (10:00 pm).  The Crew are 6-5-6 this year (24 points).  The Whitecaps are 2-8-8 (14 points).

Columbus most recently played FC Dallas Saturday night, losing 2-0.  Vancouver played Toronto FC in MLS play last Wednesday, losing 1-0.  They also played Toronto on Saturday in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship final, losing 2-1.  They lost the two game final series by an aggregate score of 3-2.

At Crew Stadium earlier in the season, Columbus defeated Vancouver, 2-1.  Emilio Renteria scored both of the goals for the Crew.

Crew defender Andy Iro (red card) and midfielder Emmanuel Ekpo (yellow card accumulation) are both suspended for Wednesday’s game.

Prediction: Crew 2-1 Whitecaps

The Whitecaps are in last place in the entire league.  Columbus is coming off a bad loss where they didn’t show much energy or pride.  They will be looking to make up for the previous loss.  The Whitecaps will score one in front of their sell out home crowd, but the Crew will score two to get their second away win of the season.
