Columbus Crew v. Richmond Kickers (USOC) June 28th, 2011

The Columbus Crew will host the Richmond Kickers of the USL Pro Division (third tier of U.S. soccer) in the third-round of the U.S. Open Cup tonight at 7:30.  The Richmond Kickers are currently second place in their league this year.

The Kickers defeated the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 4-1 to get to this stage of the competition.  Midfielder David Bulow scored the first two goals for Richmond, and forward Matt Delicate scored the other two against Pittsburgh.

Former Crew player Stanley Nyazamba is currently on the roster for the Kickers.  Nyazamba has scored two goals for Richmond this year.  While he never got on the field during MLS play, Nyazamba did play for the Crew in the U.S Open Cup.

Crew backup goalie Andy Gruenebaum is expected to continue being the starting goalie in non-MLS competitions.  He lead the team to the U.S. Open Cup final last year.  However, Columbus lost to Seattle, 2-1.

Crew utility man Danny O’Rourke may make his first appearance of the season tonight.  O’Rourke had surgery on his knee in the off-season.
