New York v. Columbus Preview (June 4th, 2011)

The Columbus Crew play the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night (7:30 pm) in Red Bull Arena.  The Crew are 3-3-5 (14 points) on the season and currently sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.  The Red Bulls are 4-2-6 (18 points) this year, good enough for second place in the Eastern Conference.  Columbus and New York faced off on March 26 in Crew Stadium, with the game ending in a 0-0 stalemate.

New York played last Saturday in Vancouver, tying the Whitecaps 1-1.  The Crew played at home against Chivas USA, tying 3-3.

Due to the CONCACAF Gold Cup starting this week (and other international matches), many players won’t be available to play on Saturday night.  For New York, Rafael Marquez (Mexico); Dane Richards (Jamaica); Juan Agudelo, Tim Ream (USA); Dwayne De Rosario (Canada); and Bouna Coundoul (Senegal) will all be missing.  Robbie Rogers (USA) is the only player for the Crew missing the game because of international duty.

The Crew defeated the Red Bulls in the 2008 MLS Cup, 3-1.  Columbus also won by that same scoreline in last year’s game in New York.

Injury report:

Columbus Crew – OUT: DF Josh Williams; FW Santiago Prim; FW Emilio Renteria; MF Leandre Griffit; MF Danny O’Rourke; DOUBTFUL: FW Bernardo Anor

New York Red Bulls – OUT: MF Carl Robinson; DF Chris Albright

Crew forward and Designated Player Andres Mendoza was named to MLS’s Team of the Week for his two goal performance against Chivas USA.

Be Massive.
