Crew v. Goats USA Preview (May 28th, 2011)

The Columbus Crew play Chivas USA tonight at Crew Stadium (7:30 pm).  The Crew are 3-3-4 on the season (13 points).  Chivas is 3-4-3 (12 points).  In the first meeting this year between the two teams, on April 9th, the Crew left California with a point after a 0-0 tie.  The Crew are yet to lose at home this year, as they have a 3-0-2 record.

Columbus played last Saturday, losing 1-0 to Portland.  Chivas also lost 1-0, against the L.A. Galaxy, in the SuperClásico.

The Crew are in a minor scoring drought.  They haven’t scored in 203 minutes, and they have lost their last two games by a combined score of 4-0.  In fact, this whole season has been somewhat of a scoring drought.  The Crew have only scored 8 goals in their 10 games this season, and 4 of those goals are from penalty kicks.  Emilio Renteria is the team’s leading scorer this year with 4 goals, but he won’t be playing tonight after picking up a hamstring injury last week.  Robbie Rogers has 2 goals this season, but this will be his last game for the Crew for about a month due to being called-up for the U.S.A. Gold Cup team.

Former Crew player, and Nordecke fan favorite, Alejandro Moreno will be playing tonight for Chivas.  Moreno has 3 goals and 2 assists on the season. He is currently the captain of the team.  Saturday will be his last game for a while with Chivas, as he will be leaving to play with the Venezuela national team in the 2011 Copa América.  Chivas USA midfielder, and New Zealand international, Simon Elliot also previously played for Columbus (2004-2005).  Both Moreno and Elliot are expected to start.

Injury report:

Columbus Crew – OUT: MF Danny O’Rourke; DF Josh Williams; FW Santiago Prim; FW Emilio Renteria

Chivas USA – DOUBTFUL: DF Michael Lahoud; MF Blair Gavin; MF Paulo Nagamura; DF Jimmy Conrad; PROBABLE: FW Tristan Bowen; DF Seth Owusu
