The Columbus Crew play the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium (10:30 pm). The Crew are currently 3-1-4 on the season and are on a seven game unbeaten run. The Earthquakes are 1-4-3 and are sitting in last place in the Western Conference. They are on a six game winless streak.
This is the first meeting between the two teams this season. They last played October 2, 2010, at Crew Stadium. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.
The Crew are still yet to score in the first half this season. Columbus has also not given up more than one goal in a single game since the season-opening 3-1 loss against D.C. United.
The Earthquakes played Wednesday night at Empire Field in Vancouver against the Whitecaps. The game ended 1-1, after Vancouver scored right as the game reached the 90th minute. The Crew played last Saturday at Crew Stadium against the Sounders. They come out with a point after a 1-1 result.
Emilio Renteria has scored the last four goals for the Crew. The Crew put out an article this week on his journey from Venezuela to Ohio. The Columbus Dispatch also released an article on his vast improvement from last season to this season. Renteria is currently tied for 3rd place in the league for top goal scorer this year with four goals.
Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski also scored his fourth goal of the season on Wednesday night. Wondolowski lead MLS with 18 goals last year.
Earthquakes forward Steven Lenhart will be making his first appearance against his former team on Saturday. The Crew traded him this off-season for the 15th pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. Lenhart scored 13 goals in 63 MLS games for the Crew during his three years with the team.
