The 10th Annual Connor Senn Memorial Match will be taking place tomorrow night, May 3rd, in the Jessie Owens Memorial Stadium at Ohio State at 7:00 pm. The game will be played between the Ohio State men’s soccer team and the Dayton Dutch Lions of the USL.
All the money made from the game and the silent auction will go toward the Connor Senn Memorial Fund at Ohio State. Previous years, the money has gone to a scholarship given by Ohio State in Connor’s name. This year, all the earnings will go toward projects that increase heart health research and education.
A native of Granville, Ohio, Connor walked on to the Ohio State team as a freshmen, and he gained a starting spot in defense during the beginning of the 2001 season. On September 26, 2001, Connor collapsed on the field during the Buckeyes game at Akron. He passed away that same night from a congenital heart defect.
The game had been played between Ohio State and the Columbus Crew the previous ten years, but due to the new collective bargaining agreement signed by players last year, they are unable to take place in the game this year. Many Crew players will still be on hand for autographs after the game.
The Connor Senn Memorial Match is a great way to give back to the community and to help gain money for a good cause. Local Columbus company Homage will be selling t-shirts at the game as another way to help raise money.
